The information Letter

December 3-5,  2007 St. Petersburg Euroscience Cooperation Centre,  representing Euroscience Local Section in Russia,  jointly with Sociological  Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with participation the St. Petersburg Association of Scientists and Scholars, with the participation and support of the St. Petersburg Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences,  and the St. Petersburg Administration will hold  the International onference The Integration of Russian scientists into the World scientist community". The conference is devoted to the 10th anniversary of Euroscience.
The conference will deal with the following:

   assessment of the current situation in the scientific community, evaluation of the challenges and prospects arising from the integration of Russian scientists into the international scientific space, identification of the barriers to the integration, how to overcome these obstacles;
    looking at the forms of the integration of Russian researchers and comparing these forms in order to advance the Russian science, giving recommendations how to better integrate Russian scientists into  the global scientific community.

 

The following issues will be considered at the meeting:
1. The development of the European Research Area (ERA). The European Unions Code of Scientists. Status of scientists in Russia, EU and in United States of America.
2. The crisis in Russian science: lack of demand for science in Russia. Grant funding as a barrier to brain drain. Participation of Russian scientists in mobility programms. Pendulum migration as a way to enhance the potential of the Russian scientific community: the pros and cons.

3. The dynamics of human capital of science over the last 10 years. Changing patterns in the reproduction of the scientists with best skills. Stratification of the scientific community and the emergence of "new Russians scientists."
4. The role of international integration in mitigating conflicts in the community and facilitating to communication between countries.
5. The role of public organizations and scientific societies in the integration of scientists into the World scientific community
6. Women researchers as intellectual reserve of scientific community in Russia and abroad (EU, USA).

The reports will be published.
